Wednesday 6 August 2008

Today was one of those days that I'll never forget. For good (not bad) reasons. I learned a lot about Earthships... but in particular how to pound tyres. Today I pounded tyres for about 6 hours. There was a tiny bit of rain and some strong wind for about 2 hours in the afternoon, but otherwise it was perfect weather for being outside. At 4:30 we all knocked off and had a beer and a good chat. It was superb.

I'm exhausted and about to go to bed.

Tomorrow we are doing some "can" walls - reusing aluminium beverage cans.

Definitely need to solve the transportation problem though. Taos is spread out all over the place, very low density, and you really need to have a car to get into town one a week (a 15 mile drive from the greater world). Solar Powered Scooters (e.g. the Vectrix) is the way to go. They could have trailers for picking up tyres and fresh groceries.

Also quite reliant on propane for a heating/cooking fuel. Methane from composting toilets and (poo from) small scale animal systems might overcome this?

too tired to upload photos.

Had a chat with my lovely wife Zoe, baby Aquilo and my dad Ian. The perfect way to end the day, all things considered. It would be better if they were here too.
